Our Dance Studio Policies

Sophie Dance Studio Policies

  1. I understand that Sophie Dance Tuition is NON REFUNDABLE. NO CREDIT or REFUND is given for missed classes. We do not prorate for vacations, sickness, or missed classes.
  2. Late tuition payments will be charged a $30.00 late fee. There will be NO exceptions. (Atwater: All accounts must have an active credit card on file. Once you sign up for a class you will automatically be charged each semester unless you notify us via email that you are not returning.) We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone at the management’s discretion. There are absolutely no refunds or transfers.
  3. I understand that Sophie Dance Staff will communicate with me throughout the season and year via email, and take home flyers. I understand it is my responsibility to read them with my child so that I am aware of billing cycles, dance recitals, or outside performances, enrollment for the following cycle, any attire or footwear my child may need; or any other important information that being a parent at Sophie Dance requires me to be informed of. I understand that Sophie Dance will only be sending home paperwork that is important and specific to my child’s needs. Sophie Dance schedule is subject to change.
  4. I understand that Sophie Dance does allow make up classes, however they are limited to two per trimester during the Main Season and Summer Session; to be made up within the trimester (aka payment cycle), they do not roll over. The make-up does not have to be in the same style of dance. Sophie Dance Main Season is ongoing from September to May/June (making up three trimesters at 3rd Street & 5 payment cycles at Atwater), while Summer Season is ongoing from June to August. To attend a make up class I must contact the studio at least a day in advance between 9AM and 5PM to schedule a makeup class. I understand that some classes fill up and that makeup classes are subject to availability and NOT GUARANTEED.
  5. I understand that I will be charged according to my payment plan unless I notify Sophie Dance two weeks prior to the end of any payment cycle.
  6. I understand that Sophie Dance is not responsible for the injuries or accidents in the parking lot. It is my responsibility to be careful backing out, and pulling in the lot; and exercise caution as children are always walking to-and-from class.
  7. I understand it is my responsibility to be on-time. We understand between the unpredictability of LA traffic, and general parenting that being on time is not always possible, so please note, we would love to see your child in class regardless of how late you may be running that day. If you are running late to pick up your child please do not panic; we’ll wait until you arrive for pick up. However, AFTER THIRTY MINUTES you will be charged $20. If another class is in progress we may ask your child to join.
  8. I understand that my child’s hair MUST be up, or out of their face to participate in class.
  9. I understand that my child must wear appropriate dance wear, i.e. leotard, tights, jazz pants, yoga wear, tutu’s are all acceptable. Jeans and baggy t-shirts are not. Children will need ballet slippers for ballet, hip hop and jazz and tap shoes for tap.
  10. I understand that there is no food or soda allowed in the dance studio.
  11. I understand by entering the studio, visitors/students consent to be photographed, recorded and/or filmed by Sophie Dance photographer(s)/videographer(s) and to have the photographs/recording/film reproduced and disseminated for internal, security, and promotional purposes.
  12. I understand that Sophie Dance is not responsible for lost or stolen valuables. If your item has been misplaced please check out Lost + Found. Items must be claimed in person. Every 30-days, unclaimed items are given to a local charity.

A Letter from Sophie

Dear Sophie Dance Parents:

Thank you for enrolling your child or children in Sophie Dance. I very much appreciate your vote of confidence in our exciting studio. I also personally assure you that I will devote all of my time and energy toward ensuring that all of our students have a joyful and rewarding experience at our wonderful studio.

I want to explain our policies regarding classes and tuition, so that you will clearly understand both these policies and the reasons for them.

Sophie Dance is a recreational-dance school where your children will participate on a weekly basis in order to develop their dancing abilities, explore their acting talents and improve their overall fitness. In our view, these goals can be reasonably achieved only in a program that encompasses multiple-class lessons. By attending multiple classes, your children will learn, improve upon and combine new skills and routines. For example, the fun that your children will have in classes in December or in February will be based in part on what they have already learned by participating in classes in October.

You will certainly understand that, if a child attends a single class filled with other children who have been already working on a specific routine for several weeks, the new child is likely to feel frustrated and perhaps even overwhelmed. Generating such negative feelings runs counter to the mission of Sophie Dance. This year I am allowing children to make up a missed class in another class of similar level. However, it is important to note what I am saying and prepare your child for entering a class different from the one they are attending week to week.

Conversely, asking children who have been practicing a routine repeatedly to start over in order to accommodate a new arrival would likely undercut the progress that those children have already made and turn the lesson into a demoralizing experience for them, again something that Sophie Dance is committed to avoiding. So, again, for this year please consider these important facts and simply prepare your child as I will do my job to prepare the children in class that someone is making up and we must make them feel welcome and comfortable. If we all work together on this I am hopeful we can allow makeup classes.

In addition, in order for Sophie Dance to secure the services of top-quality teachers who will also commit themselves to teaching classes several months in advance, and who in turn will make themselves available for the hours that best suit your demanding schedules and the needs of your children, we must conduct our multiple-class approach on a tuition-payment basis.

Under this policy, parents are required to pay the tuition for their children’s instruction a minimum of three months at a time, in advance, under what is effectively a trimester system, with each trimester consisting of approximately eleven weeks of classes. There are absolutely no refunds on dance tuition.

We do hope, though, that you will help us achieve our goal of providing a positive and constructive environment for your children by striving to avoid having your child miss any classes or at least minimizing the number of times your child misses class.

If your child misses a class for any reason, including illness, you will not receive any refund of tuition previously paid or any credit against tuition that may be outstanding at the time of the absence.

I hope that this letter clarifies our tuition policy for you. To the extent that you have any additional questions or concerns relating to this policy or any other aspect of Sophie Dance, I will be happy to address them with you at any time, whether in person, by telephone or by e-mail.

Thank you so much for allowing your child to become a part of our vibrant new community, where we provide a positive environment for growing people.

Warmly,
Sophie Pierce
