About Miss Alison

Born and raised in Austin, TX, Alison discovered her love for movement at a very early age. She began her dance training when she was 4 years old, and over the course of 10 years, she trained at her local dance studio, becoming skilled in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and pointe. During this time in her life, she also became a member of the academy’s competition and performance team as an Elite company member. After graduating high school, she continued her dance education at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland where she deepened her understanding of modern dance and developed her pedagogical practice. When she moved back to attend the University of Texas, Alison supported herself by teaching dance for children and adults at local community organizations such as the YMCA and the Jewish Community Center. In her time as a dance teacher, she acted as the assistant choreographer and director of the the JCC’s successful dance team, eventually taking over the team to become the head coach. This was a pivotal experience for Alison as it led her to discover her passion for teaching, and ultimately steered her toward pursuing a degree in Applied Learning and Development. Since acquiring her degree, Alison allowed her passion for movement and education to guide her professionally. As a result, she has performed in multiple professional musicals, shows, and events, collaborating with such creative minds like Tony Award Winner, Robin Lewis and Sally Jacques, visionary of the aerial dance company, Blue Lapis Light. She is also a trained pilates and barre instructor, having received her certification form former Radio City Rockette, Jennifer McCammish, owner of Dancers Shape. Most recently, Alison added precision dance training to her skillset when she travelled to New York to attend the Radio City Rockettes’ summer intensive program. After moving to Los Angeles, Alison returned to teaching; whether she was teaching preschool or dance classes, she was overjoyed to be working with children again. It is with this enthusiasm and utmost gratitude that Alison steps into her new role with the Sophie Dance family, where she looks forward to growing and sharing her knowledge, experience, and passion with young dancers and families around Los Angeles.
