The Latest From Sophie

Happy New Year

As I sit here with 2009 nearly behind me, I find it impossible not to be overwhelmed by the many blessings that came through the glass doors of Sophie Dance.  A magically wild dance recital took place on May 30th 2009 where 250 children sparkled on stage.  We hosted 12 weeks of summer camp and performed a show every Friday in our studio.  I somehow managed to get married in New York between those two events with the help of my extraordinary staff.  Miss Nora has the ability to run Sophie Dance as if it were her own.  Sophie Dance welcomed Miss Brandi more and more each week and she is now our resident Hip Hop teacher.  We also welcomed dear Miss Audra who came on to teach more toddlers who were ready to dance and Miss Erin who keeps us all organized and certainly allows me to focus on the children more than the paperwork.  In addition to their many talents and ability to teach, the women who work at Sophie Dance have brought magic with them as they make the children feel present and important.

The messages your children are getting today are the one’s they will carry with them forever.  It is now that they come to believe what they will believe about themselves as they grow into teens, young adults and much later, adults.  In 2010 we will continue to encourage your children to believe in their abilities, in their beauty, and in their personal magic.

2009 welcomed 350 dancers this Fall.  With nearly 70 children on the waitlist we will be adding whatever classes we can.  We will be adding some classes at the studio, Harmony, located in West Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd.  However, with any new additions, I will continue to remain focused on the quality of our classes and not the quantity of our classes.

This Spring we will host Take Your Mommy or Daddy to Dance Day and Take Your BFF to Dance Day.  Our summer camp schedule will reveal itself the end of January.  We will host Glee Camp, Mary Poppins, Vampire Camp, Beauty and The Beast, Billy Elliot, The Lion King, So You Think You Can Dance and more.

In the next few months Sophie Dance will also be transitioning into two rooms as we build a wall between our studio and store area creating a separate office space.  This wall will not only serve to keep our children protected but will give our dancers the privacy they deserve to dance without distraction.  I have been considering this wall since the day I opened my doors in September of 2007.  The time has arrived.

Our Year End Dance Recital is booked for Sunday May 16, 2010 at The Wilshire Ebell Theatre with shows at 10:30am and 1pm.  If you are a current parent or student, please save that date.

And our adult classes begin January 10th.  Please visit www.LaUnbound.com for all of the information for adult dance.
